The Big Bull – A Decent Pull.

If we wouldn’t have seen Hansal Mehta’s SCAM, the Big Bull would have been a great watch too. It is the story that has so much potential to keep your interest high that Jr B too brings the Big Bull to a decent pull. Else, it is not so easy to hold on the film where you have almost walked through the incidents of the characters in the detailed web series that too very recent.

What works for the film here is only the story and Jr. B leading quite decently while rest of the cast only fills in the blanks and has no match to the depth of the character the series offers. Comparisons are bound to happen. The series has the benefit of its length and then we had Hansal Mehta as a director.

The weakness of the film is the rest of the cast too, Sohum Shah I felt absolute mis-fit as he could hardly act in some of the scenes that were emotional and somehow his body structure seems to be reduced which goes completely against the impression his persona has. Nikita Dutta as his spouse fails to grow-up. Supriya Pathak as always adds the authenticity as his mother but has little to do. Ram Kapoor as a lawyer is good and Ileana D Cruz the journalist, the way we saw the role of a journalist almost as a driving factor in the series, a primary one. Here is kind of boiled down to a narrator, narrating a story in 2020 at the book launch. Unfortunately, a common expression throughout the film.

Mahesh Manjrekar in one scene too leaves an impression, so the film had very good potential and if we wouldn’t have seen the SCAM series, we would have probably liked the film more for its story, rest of the facts on the cast remains the same.

The film also lacks good dialogues, very mediocre dialogues, else it had the era where a lot could have been done to leave the impression high. Songs here and there too are a slowdown and a letdown.

It is the Story that is the Hero of the film and happy to see Abhishek Bachchan pulling it off well.  What Mani Ratnam delivered with Abhishek Bachchan giving us all time classic GURU, Kookie Gulati has given us Vivek Oberoi starer Prince in the year 2010 and now the forgettable Big Bull.

PK Verdict: Just Silver 2.5*s
