Article 370 –  Mirror of Society comes alive!!!

Article 370 as we all know is recent historic change leading to New India, Crowning back the Indian Glory. The film is a no-nonsense historic drama that unfolds the events chapter wise to what led to abrogation and how. The makers of the film through their cinematic lens succeed to give us an immersive experience with great performances, brilliant background score and entertaining Parliament drama. We have seen many court room dramas but to witness the parliament drama at its best is what Article 370 rings in, in one the most entertaining climax you will witness in Indian Cinema. The director Aditya Suhas Jambhale is a two-time National award winner for a reason. Take a bow for clearing the dust off the mirror.

Article 370 of the Indian constitution gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, the film revolves around how this was invalidated, why and when. The conspiracies behind the Article 370 and how the constitution of India was manipulated to keep something alive to play around the dirty politics. Terrorism is a business we all know, how it is executed is what Article 370 brings into picture too. Cinema for a reason is called reflection of the society. The makers here showcase their ability to mirror well what happened making India witness its victory with panache.

Yami Gautam plays Zooni, handpicked to lead an operation in NIA with a mission that leads the title. She plays Zooni  and her character has a depth difficult to fathom, her role well written with a haunting past brings a lot of depth and gravitas to her character. She is vulnerable and strong at the same time, bringing so many layers of emotions that you are never disconnected with the emotion she carries for the love of country. Her frustration shines and performance excel when she brings a peak in her voice or menace in her silence. Full marks to her performance to keep you invested and of course rest of the writing and cast that is truly brilliant.

Priyamani essays another important role showcasing the right command that her character demands, not every day you see such poised performance. She is the pillar of the movement you see in the film. Vaibhav Tatwawadi is someone who will steal your heart. In a special appearance role, he succeeds to leave a lasting impression. It is the performance of the Home Minister in the second half that steals the show in the parliament scenes, making the opposition look small, his performance stands tall. Kiran Karmarkar essays the role of Home Minister of the “Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki” fame, one of his best performances, presenting Amit Shah with such finesse that he alone holds the command to keep you invested in the climax. Arun Govil plays Prime Minister and he too in a limited role brings the Midas touch he holds, This is why I feel the casting is pitch perfect, it is great to bring Arun Govil as Prime Minister and work on his look. His smile and recall value of RAM is still an epitome of elegance. And yes you would hate Raj Arjun again(secret superstar fame), a great actor who delivers yet again with his performance. Same is the case with Raj Zutshi’s performance. Skand Sanjeev Thakur comes as a good support to Yami in the second half. His presence is delightful and character matters. Not a single actor in the film you would feel is just there for the heck of it. All small roles are written well too, they all bring together a great immersive film experience Article 370 is.

The writers Aditya Dhar and Monal Thaakar, leave no stone unturned to keep their narrative detailed yet simple and effective for a common man to understand what the film is about. Besides, it never gets into the zone of showing jingoistic approach or any propaganda one may think of. It brings you facts and how.

The impact is silent, in their direction, in their background score, one of the scenes a dark chapter, Pulwama attack, its execution will give you goosebumps, minimal drama maximum impact, they stir the chaos in your head but not on screen. You feel for your soldiers, you hate the dirty politics, you feel small. They leave the auditorium in silence, we go speechless. And then there is a thunderous round of applause as well when you witness the magic of the parliament scenes, you come alive, you cheer, you applaud, you feel victorious. You feel complete, that is what the cinematic mirror of Article 370 does to you. An experience not to be missed.

The film is a good cinematic mirror to the historic event, a mirror for the people of India to witness the politics of Kashmir; specially the locals of Kashmir where some still doubt if the move was right. Right or wrong is the perspective, The film is an honest attempt to give one a vision, clearing the lasting clouds. Your identity is a mirror covered with dust. When you first look in the mirror, the truth of who you are and what you value is obscured. Clearing it may not be pleasant, but only when that dust is gone can you see your true reflection. Kashmir continues to clear its dust, and soon will shine and rise with the clear reflection. The film is the true reflection of the recent historic chapter that makes Kashmir (J&K) special yet again.

Article 370 is Knock on the door for you to come and witness the History coming alive on big screen.
