Creative Director R Balki and Director Jagan Shakti have given Bollywood a new genre of films “Edutainment” wherein you just don’t enjoy the film; you learn as well. The film educates without giving you a classroom feel. It makes you experience their experiments with sheer brilliance of writing and not just about science. They give you a philosophy of keeping it simple. This is where they strike the chord with the audience.

Mission Mangal gives you a new perception to observe life.

The film begins with a GSLV Fat Boy failure; now for those who find this difficult; Mission Mangal makes this simpler for you to understand. The leading scientist Rakesh played by new era Manoj Kumar aka Akshay Kumar is pulled down for its failure and given a Mission that is nearly Impossible but that’s not the word Rakesh is known to. Rakesh embraces it with open arms with his swag. Mission Mangal happens.

The film has an ensemble star cast that forms part of this Mission. Led by Vidya Balan supported by Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari, Nithya Menen, Sonakshi Sinha, Sharman Joshi and Dattanna. A crisp introduction of each character speaks volume of the art of writing. In minutes you connect with each one of it. With a dozen of actors on board and this length of the film speaks a lot about the magic of writing and editing.

Vidya Balan’s domestic challenges are regular challenges but how she sees is where the director succeeds to give us a new dimension. Does God Exists? Being a scientist why one does rituals? Changing religion? Worshipping idols? Living up to a dream? The film gives a direction on some of these great philosophical questions giving a thoughtful perspective.

Apart from the Mission gang, Sanjay Kapoor who plays her husband is a great cast too, making him groove on one his old numbers from the film Raja is one of the high moments of the film on the humorous side. The film doesn’t fail to entertain at all. The strong mission is well layered with the humor, emotion, spirit and high spirits too. One of the scenes when they all get under the high spirits and how they get indulged into an action is a feast. Sonakshi Sinha returns as Dabanng in this scene, all women together get into some serious action making the audience do the thunder-claps; while Khiladi Akshay mews, amusing us to some great laughs.

The film on the edutainment front showcases concepts of physics, space engineering, gravity, eclipses. Plastic composites, home science that gives ideation and direction to this mission. All this are well integrated without leaving the touch of entertainment.

This is where the film makes you feel wow and while we get closer to the mission; the director to captivates us into the space making us witness the Mission and relive India’s Pride Moment. Such a film coming out on an Independence Day is a Big High. Jai Hind.
A must watch for children. I’m positive there will be lot of School Bulk screenings and the film may go Tax-free too.

DO NOT MISS!!!

Take a Bow – the entire crew for making India relive the glorious movements.
