Ginny Weds Sunny – Just another Romcom!!!

Director Puneet Khanna invites us to Ginny Weds Sunny and serves us just another wedding buffet with not so prominent support cast as side dishes, it is just the bride and the groom who steals the show and makes this romcom a decent watch.

Ginny is super cool, urban and comes across as a tough cookie to crack yet she is lot of fun. Played by Yami Gautam, she is the heart of this wedding and performs her role to the fullest, giving this film a needed soul. Sunny played by Vikrant Massey, a brilliant actor who tries hard to fit into the typecast role, to an extent he does so, but it is quite visible at times that he is indeed acting. A brilliant actor who with this one is on an attempt to try something different, that different comes as quite typecast. Yet he along with Yami makes Ginny Weds Sunny worth a visit.

The film begins with the confused state and stays in that state until the end. Though it stays true to its genre of light hearted romcom, Ginny Weds Sunny does touches the chord of a boring predictable love triangle seen umpteen times in the history of Bollywood. Ginny weds sunny has nothing new to offer, neither a great music, nor a strong emotion, neither the great comedy required for a rom com, some of the lines are cheesy enough within the screenplay for Yami to pick up and calling it cheesy. Some of them are good and some of them are just there. It is indeed the writing too, that is predictable making the humour fall flat most of the times.

Ginny works for an insurance agency, struggles achieving sales target has a boyfriend with whom she has moved on with a confused state of mind.

Sunny, a great chef at home, aspires to open up a restaurant, wonder what wedding had to do with his opening up a restaurant, is desperate to marry than finding love. Eventually, he chases love and is pup-petted to chase the love of his life. Things go awry of course when they have to, these are some of the situations that are milestones and humour is subtle but drama overboard, nevertheless one sails through.

A more quirkier writing would have worked wonders when you have such brilliant leads to perform. There was lot of scope of better casting, both the boyfriends cast for Yami were mediocre enough to bring the film down.

Music is passable and so is the film.

This time, Yami Gautam is the sole saviour of the film. Watch it for her.
