Extraction: Keeps your Eyes Hooked on Action.

Extraction keeps your eyes hooked on action along with emotion. Chris Hemsworth, the actor continues to give us a Thor experience from Super-Hero to a Hero in Human delivering shots that will blow you off. Randeep Hooda too succeeds to steal the show with his spectacular performance with action multiplied with substance. David Harbor and Pankaj Tripathi are the great extraction of performances a film tops it up with.

It rightly brings out the emotion of what it feels like to be on the wrong side of things but still fight for your life. None of the characters in the film are ideal in what they do. Mercenaries and Drug Lords yet the emotional connect that they build with the audience throughout the movie makes you want to root for them in the end even though they’re bad guys in the eyes of Society.

The cinematography of the film done by Newton Thomas Sigel is so well shot and the Director Sam Hargrave has really gone out of the way to capture some shots we haven’t seen on this scale in a long time. From epic car chases in the bustling crowded streets of Dhaka to shootouts in old buildings.

Chris Hemsworth plays Tyler a mercenary who takes up the job to extract a young boy named Ovi Mahajan who is the son of Senior the drug kingpin of India. During this extraction that is based in Bangladesh, Tyler drops bodies to the floor and the Sam captures each one of them with the exact same thrill. Golshifteh Farahani who plays Nik Khan is an accomplice of Tyler and is constantly looking out for him as he is trying to make his way out. While Randeep Hooda’s performance on the other end as Saiju a henchman and protector of Ovi is just as commendable as he is really seen sweating and bleeding it out to keep up with Tyler. Randeep Hooda delivers a stellar performance.

The film has a certain sense of urgency from start to end as the life of Ovi depends on how long he is in Dhaka. As every minute he stays there he has a target on his head, placed by none other than Amir Asif a Bangladeshi Crime Lord played by  Priyanshu Painyuli.

With brief but influential appearances from David Harbour and Pankaj Tripathi the film gets a nice touch of rooted strong characters that the formers are known for playing.

The film shows you the journey of a cold-hearted mercenary who is haunted by his past that is filled with pain and anguish of losing his son and family transforming himself into a caring guardian for the boy as he realizes he is Ovi’s only hope to get to safety.

As much as the audience would like to see more compassion and closure, the relationship is very subtle and just enough to keep the story apart from only violence and a mission-oriented film that it could have easily become.

Even though the storyline of the film thrills you from start to the very end it could have definitely delivered a better ending. The movie ends with a rather disrupt scene, eight months from the actual extraction where you see a very distressed Ovi and no closure on Tyler’s part.

Directed by Sam Hargrave and Produced by Russo Brothers the directors of Hollywood Blockbuster Avengers, they brought a lot to the table to take this project to another level.

Overall the film is a good refresher for Hollywood and Bollywood as well as the recent few releases of the same genre have been unrealistic and too overpowering.

Extraction is a good combination of action, acting and emotions with a purpose.
