Satyaprem ki Katha – Satvik Love Story!!!
Sameer Vidwans Satya Prem ki Katha is indeed a love story that is pure, positive, and persuasive. Satvik in its true form; Storytelling at its best. The story may not be what we haven’t seen it before, but it is the Director’s art that makes the difference. It is not what you say, how you say it – matters. They take a little long to reach the point, but when they do, they hit the bull’s eye. And in the meanwhile, they entertain you; apart from keeping you curious to why things are the way they are. The Kartik Aryan-Kiara Advani chemistry works and what you get is a love story in its true form.
Satyaprem essayed by Kartik Aryan, is the performance that will stay in people’s heart for long, it is one of his best roles in the recent past, such a soulful performance that Satyaprem lands straight into the heart. The character so well crafted, written and performed. The Director succeeds to celebrate the Hero Kartik Aryan is; from the word go, opening the film to the song “Hero Aaya Re”, it is indeed a celebration. Kiara Advani as Katha on the other hand is the girl next door, she also gets a song entry performing live at a Garba festival that is where the cupid strikes knocking off the love story that occurred at the first sight, no spoilers here. This comes from the trailer, the hashtag dialogue, and the name Tapan; not a great name to form the Hashtag with. In the little exchange they share, Kiara is confident, chirpy, and cheerful. As the story progresses, she succeeds to display a performance that is restrained and vulnerable. Her growth as an actor is commendable and as Katha she succeeds to create #satyarpremkikatha a filmy saga to vouch for.
The film has great actors in supporting roles, Gajrao Rao continues to win hearts with his subtle performance not just a dash of comedy but also shares a great camaraderie with his on-screen son Sattu. Supriya Pathak too brings in her pitch perfect grace as Sattu’s mother. In limited roles, their gravitas is high. Writing is the magic here, Karan Sharma scores high with his writing. One of my favourite scenes is where mother and son share a great bond, the emotions depicted by both Kartik Aryan and Supriya Pathak stay with you for long, this is a scene where every child would resonate their equation with their mother, an emotion so well crafted. We have now a director someone other than Karan Johar too who can make us cry. The film makes you laugh also equally as chemistry between the father son duo is well crafted to bring in the right balance.
The Plot has it all, a girlfriend, a boyfriend, a breakup, a marriage, a past, and most important a message well packaged in a commercial masala film. With the right conscience that the film will have a wider reach, raising the bar of consciousness amongst the audience, full marks to the makers bringing in such a great love story to cherish. It is after a long time, we have seen on screen romance that has depth, sensibilities, and a certain warmth. The Director Sameer Vidwan has the right vision to convey the emotion, one of the romantic scenes which could have easily gone wrong holds the plot tight, not making it look otherwise or sensualize. More love to Kartik and Kiara for bringing their truest form in their titular roles.
I may have termed it as a Satvik Love Story, the humor has some pun intended dialogues making it relevant to the Gen Z generation these days. But at the soul, Satyaprem ki Katha is the purest form of cinema in the recent times coming from Bollywood.
PK Verdict: Gold****
