PK Verdict

Akshay Kumar as Vijay Kumar shines bright with the right Charisma in Raaj Mehta’s Selfiee. However, what doesn’t work in the film is the VS role that of Om Prakash essayed by Emraan Hashmi who seemed a misfit for this role giving it way too easy, looking poor with hardly any form or bringing any command to his role. In spite of being a remake of the successful well-written film Driving licence, they poorly sketch the role of Emraan Hashmi making him look less impressive to make other shine better unlike the original.

Rest the director Raaj Mehta in his earlier films Good News and Jug Jug Jeeyo got the entertainment factor right along with a few scenes that brought the house down hilariously. Here in Selfiee, the comedy is crass and over the top. In the name of comedy they fart. Poor Adah Sharma is paid to fart in the film. Also they keep the same actress for the stature of Vijay Kumar and his rivalry Suraj essayed by Abhimanyu Singh same, the only factor they could prove that he is the rival which is otherwise shown too caricaturist. Poor Abhimanyu Singh who is a great actor is made to do this poorly written role of the Rival actor Suraj that goes absolutely against the film. To make it look relatable or real, wish they had burn some flames writing it better making the rivalry look better giving more meat to the plot than pulling it down with ass breaking walnuts.

Prajakta Kohli who shined in Raaj Mehta’s Jug Jug Jeeyo is wasted here doing more of an obligation than fitting the bill right. A role that could have had had an opportunity otherwise. For the heroines, Diana Plenty has an extended guest role and Nushrat is decent in whatever little she has to offer. Kudi song lands well opening the cast and Mrunal Thakur is treat to watch in that one song. The background score is just loud and loud. We saw enough TV reporters jumping out of their seats in the studio making the Arnab Goswami stints hot sell in such films. Now they have taken a boredom and we have witness theatres turning into News room than directors bringing in any creativity to make this look better.

The film being a remake is not a well-made and is high time Bollywood stops recycling, remixing and rewinding the old stuff.

Vikram Vedha well made in Hindi, in spite of being directed by the same directors failed to perform at the box office. Last week, we had Shehzaada in spite of being a good film, a bankable actor yet failed to perform at the box-office. We all know how Akshay Kumar films have fared at the box office in the recent times, knowing content is the king they fail to churn the content better. Borrow the spine, but flesh out better films than poorly remaking them.

Bollywood making films is like, they watching South Master Chefs and then trying those recipes at home without being conscious of the quality of the ingredients and their right proportion.

End result is a bad dish, that they cooked and want to make others eat it too, comes at a cost they fail to see. Hence, many of the actors don’t see their own film.

Selfiee is an opportunity loss for Akshay Kumar who otherwise posed perfect for this film. Abhimanyu Singh’s one scene is MT that is hilarious wish the film too was hilarious than MT. Selfiee Delete please.
