Rocky aur Rani ki Prem Kahani – Entertainer!!!

Karan Johar delivers his kind of cinema with Panache. RRKPK succeeds to entertain, though a no brainer yet an entertainer. The Lead Pair has the Lukewarm chemistry yet what sizzles is the old Bollywood Romance. Jaya Bachchan is Bang-on; you would love to hate her; she does smile and how. RRKPK is more laughter’s and less tears giving you moments of sheer enjoyment.  All in a KJO style, it is lighter than all his earlier films on emotion, but high on drama and reels comedy.

RRKPK from its rushes wasn’t looking that great, nevertheless, the film succeeds to entertain and when your expectations are low, it hits the ball out of the park. Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt are brilliant in their performances yet fail to sizzle as a pair than what you would expect it from a love story, especially when the title has Prem Kahaani the film has less prem in their chemistry but as individual performances they rock, complement each other well in the drama scenes. Love blossoms through Sa Re Ga Ma’s old medley and there is a breeze of old Bollywood that keeps you happily smiling throughout. Rocky aka Ranveer is loud as always, and Rani aka Alia Bhatt is cute, beautiful, and strong all at the same time.

Randhawas versus Chatterjee is full of Cliches yet packed well to entertain, loud and bold. It is not Rich Vs Poor, it is about who speaks better English. Well if we try to dive into finding the meaning in Kjo’s film, there isn’t much everything is at surface level specially the emotions. Drama Comedy is loud and so is Jaya Bachchan. Her performance and role is the spine of the film that holds everything together, have it been her act would have gone wrong, the film would have fallen like a pack of cards. Dharmendra is charming as ever and his vulnerability in place as Dadaji he is still yearning for its old lost love. Shabana Azmi is decent and does her part well, subtle and lovable, their chemistry is good and has more depth than in their equation than the lead RR. Tota Roy Choudhury is warm and brings in a brilliant performance along with his Solo Dance with Ranveer Singh he brings the house down with SLB’s Dola Dola.  Aamir Bashir has brilliant screen presence and the performs at par, the character well written with a good measure of vulnerability and strength.

It is first Karan Johar film, where the music is not strong at all and relies on other Bollywood tracks to keep the audience engaged. OST lacks the triumph. None of the song in the love story stands out. All are passable songs, the film nevertheless sails through decently with whatever it has. Neither the film has an impactful background score. It is the cast and never a dull moment that makes RRKPK a decent entertainer.
