Anurag Kashyap has his own style of lighting up the screen and blowing up audiences mind.
Being his big fan of the cinema, he makes Manmarziyan was something to look
forward to; considering the performers it had Taapsee and Vicky Kaushal.
With the
impressive trailer this was definitely on the must watch list. Alas, it turned
out to be one of his weakest films with the stellar cast. Indeed, another
Bombay Velvet. Manmarziyan is Amritsar Velvet oops!!! Horny Not Velvet.

No sooner
the film opens, and you witness a man hopping terraces to end the cravings of
his libido and the girl who finds this Amritsari local superman on Tinder lets
him cum and is ready to lose her virginity at the first swipe. At first, you
feel the heat of their love story but towards the end when you realize they met
on tinder everything looked so small.

This is how many would feel after watching Manmarziyaan

First half what
people are talking about is impressive is only because they went in theaters
with high hopes considering the line of cast it has. And are left with no
choice but to sail through the lust story that makes no sense or cares about
the sensibilities of anybody. Family is very accommodating; the guy who hops
terraces to their bedroom easily invites him with his family asking to get “Rishta”.
At this point, you don’t know yet they have met through Tinder else much before
you would have known the gravity of their love story. Taapsee states if you can’t
get Rishta she will marry the first guy some shaadiram gharjode (marriage
broker) brings in. A character who’s not just looks; his lines too; irritate
you in the disguise of humor. Of course, you can guess like everybody else, the
rishta that comes is none than Junior Bachchan’s. Don’t know when his “Acchhe
Din” will arrive. (Pun intended)
A lot is
spoken about him coming back on screen after 2 years; defines acche din itself
it seems. Anyways, it is beyond a point to understand why one would marry a
girl in spite of knowing her status; knowing it all specially when it is an
arrange marriage. The director forgot to give Jr. Bachchan Tinder app where he
could have easily found his love. For arrange marriage, he could have been
given Shaadi.com App or Bharat Matrimony app why interfere in someone else’s
Tinder relationship to become Devta towards the end. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam was
a classic and did wonders to the career of Ajay Devgn without getting that “a”
dropped then. Manmariyzan’s character of Junior Bachchan is exactly same as Rishi
the character he played in Karan Johar’s KANK that tanked. And due to the
similarity of character they thought it will be easy making him play the same
character again and give audiences the USP stating his comeback post 2 years. This
review may seem endless but honestly so was the first half. Watching a film in
a city that is not in India we actually assumed the film has come to an end; when
we saw “intermission” we raised our hopes only to get disappointed again.

Manmarziyan
is definitely not path breaking. If this is what Tinder does than India still
has to rise above the standards of Dating than to hook-ups. If a girl finds a
guy on Tinder, falls in love and later denies the same guy stating he is not “Husband
Material” is a shame to the app. But that’s the title of the film for
international market and it will work because that’s the strategy. We only hope
they would have worked a bit on the film too than the strategy alone.

Performances
are class apart. Taapsee and Vicky are in the skin of characters. Abhishek is
good too. It is the story, the script the refurbishment of a classic that has
gone wrong.

Vikram Kochhar

The only
fellow who succeeds to bring in some great laughs is the actor Vikram kochhar.

The slow-motion
scene in the end where Taapsee runs towards Abhishek Bachchan is scary and only
gives you the momentum to run out of the auditorium real quick.

Manmarzi
wala review hai. Jo hai wahi kaha hai.
