Kho Gaye Hum Kahan – Is Indeed Lost!!!

Coming from the House of Tiger Baby, expectations were high looking at the rushes of the film.  Debutant Director Arjun Singh disappoints with the film after giving us an impressive trailer. The conflict they speak about in the trailer of how social media is affecting lives; film doesn’t really have this element at its core or touches the subject at depth. It is just the after consequences post few events in their lives is where they lose their consciousness of their actions, puking it out on social media not only making you feel lost but exhausted. And at the end they absolutely go the preachy way giving you five pointers on how to live off screen.

Everything that glitters is not gold. Though the film looks beautiful thanks to its cinematography and art design, yet it lacks the soul or any material to keep the audience engaged. Looks just an extended version of Gehraiyaan without entanglements.

Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti are two big names when it comes to Storytelling, this does raise the bar of expectations, not to forget it is also written along with Yash Sahai one of the screenplay writers of Gehraiyaan. He is following a pattern of not knowing where the film is going, and we wonder how Zoya or Reema are not contributing saving this detour of these films. Still, Gehraiyaan was a little better film than this. This too follows the similar pattern a death in the family, father issues, childhood trauma, therapies, an ambition that no one is working upon and non-acting Ananya Pandey.

The film is about 3 friends you see in the trailer and other than Adarsh Gourav none of the central characters do well in their parts. Siddhant Chaturvedi plays Imaad and is passable doesn’t really differ from his earlier character Zain from Gehraiyaan. Same for Ananya Pandey, she was better in Gehraiyaan I would say. Adarsh Gourav is commendable in his act and brings a depth in his performance from confidence to being vulnerable he continues to showcase his talent. Even the support cast, Rohan Gurbaxani plays decent, and Kalki is always great in her art and brings a certain meat to the matter adding up the right weight to the Imaad’s arc.

Imaad is a stand-up comedy artist seeking his validation for his act to stream on Netflix. Film opens with one such act not good enough to tickle your funny bones speaking about the bone. He shares and apartment with Ahana (Ananya Pandey) who is “M” “B” “A” good at making power point presentations. Adarsh Gourav is Neil a Gym Instructor the only actor who is bankable in his craft so much so that the other two wants to invest in his gym, an ambition they don’t want to pursue for the wafer-thin conflicts. Either their friendship is not deep or their ambition. It is this lazy writing of the film that doesn’t let Kho Gaye Hum Kahan find its ground to what they want to say.  Making it look indeed lost.

Kho Gaye Hum Kahan – Streaming now on Netflix, swipe left if you get there.
