Singham Again – MASSaledar and that’s about it!!!

Singham Again is gearing up for its theatrical release, but the trailer leaves much to be desired. The over four-minute-long preview feels less like a teaser and more like a short film, inundating the audience with spoon-fed references to Ramayana characters. It painstakingly explains who plays Jatayu, Laxman, and other mythological figures, treating viewers as if they can’t draw their own connections. This is a stark contrast to how Prakash Jha masterfully drew Mahabharata parallels in Rajneeti, trusting his audience’s intelligence to make those connections themselves.

Instead of building anticipation or leaving room for surprise, the trailer feels more like a classroom lesson on a modern-day Ramayana, complete with a PowerPoint-like structure that lays out exactly what to expect. Adding to the disappointment, Arjun Kapoor’s portrayal of Ravana doesn’t seem promising, as his performance history leaves doubts about whether he can bring the intensity the role demands.

The only potential saving grace is Rohit Shetty’s usual flair for masala entertainment. The star-studded cast might still draw audiences into theaters, but whether this Diwali offering turns out to be a fireworks display or a dud remains to be seen.

5 Reasons why the Singham Again Trailer Misses the Mark for Us:

  1. Repetitive Formula: Rohit Shetty’s Cop Universe films have followed a familiar pattern—over-the-top action sequences, a larger-than-life hero, and heavy use of melodrama. TheSingham Again trailer feels like a recycled version of his previous movies, with nothing fresh or innovative. While entertaining, the lack of originality leaves us craving something different.
  2. Excessive Action Sequences: The trailer is packed with gravity-defying stunts and flying cars, of course we expect this from Rohit Shetty but trailer itself makes us feel overwhelming with no room for grounded storytelling. The stunts border on cartoonish, which might turn off audiences looking for more subtle or sophisticated action.
  3. Mythology Feels Forced: The integration of Ramayana references, while ambitious, can be seen as forced or unnecessary. The parallels between the characters and mythological figures, like Ajay Devgn as Ram and Arjun Kapoor as Raavan, might feel contrived and detract from the cop drama narrative that theSingham franchise originally excelled at.
  4. Trailer Length and Pacing: At nearly 5 minutes, the trailer drags on and feels bloated. It tries to cram in too much—introducing a host of characters and their mythological parallels, along with numerous action sequences. This overwhelms viewers rather than building anticipation.
  5. Character Overload: With an ensemble cast featuring Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, and more, the trailer risks overshadowing the narrative with star power. Juggling so many characters may dilute the story, making it difficult for any one character to stand out. In a movie where the lead, Bajirao Singham, should be the focus, too many cooks here seem to be diluting the flavour of the Singham.

In summary, while the Singham Again trailer is sure to excite fans of Rohit Shetty’s trademark masala films, including me, its excessive action, forced mythology, and overcrowded narrative might alienate viewers looking for more substance or originality.

That said, we’re hopeful that Singham Again will emerge as a true Diwali cracker, lighting up the box office with its heart in the right place, rather than simply ticking boxes in a formulaic, PowerPoint-style presentation designed to secure profits. It’s better for the film to win over audiences with genuine entertainment and a compelling narrative rather than just focusing on ensuring financial success without leaving viewers satisfied.
