Drishyam The Conclusion – Third Time Stellar!!!
Abhishek Pathak continues the striking baton for the second time with Drishyam 3 – The Conclusion, and the biggest compliment one can give the film is that it surprises you throughout. The thriller constantly stays one step ahead of the audience, keeps the tension alive and, most importantly, understands exactly what the Drishyam franchise stands for — suspense, clever writing, humor, family emotions and the game of cat and mouse between the truth and the people trying to uncover it.
The film doesn’t simply rely on the brand value of Drishyam. It builds upon the world created in the earlier two films and takes the narrative ahead brilliantly. The writing keeps throwing new turns at you, with the screenplay deliberately making you question what you know and what you think is going to happen next. The unpredictability remains its biggest strength. Just when you feel you have figured out the direction, the film manages to take another turn.
However, neither Ajay Devgn nor Jaideep Ahlawat’s introduction scenes creates any euphoria. The real explosion comes with Kamlesh Sawant’s entry, which sends the audience berserk with claps, whistles and laughter. And it isn’t just the entry — Gaitonde has been given some terrific punch lines throughout the film, and every line lands exactly where it should.
Kamlesh Sawant, returning as Gaitonde brings a certain familiarity to the character, to the Drishyam world, the writing gives him enough material yet again to shine across the rest of the cast. His comic timing, expressions and sheer ease in the role make Gaitonde one of the most enjoyable elements of the film. This is easily his best outing in the franchise.
Ajay Devgn, meanwhile, is in his usual form. As Vijay Salgaonkar, he remains subtle, controlled and extremely measured — exactly what the character demands. There is no unnecessary flamboyance in his performance. His restraint is picture-perfect, and that becomes particularly effective in moments where the character has to conceal more than he reveals. Devgn understands Vijay inside out, and that familiarity works beautifully for the film.
Jaideep Ahlawat is the cherry on the cake. His inclusion brings a certain freshness to the conflict and gives the narrative a different shade of menace. Happy that Akshaye Khanna missed it, because Jaideep makes the role completely his own. As usual, he is top notch, bringing intensity, unpredictability and gravitas without ever going over the top. His screen presence adds another layer to the thriller.
Prakash Raj too brings considerable gravitas as Advocate Shetty and succeeds in taking the courtroom portions a notch higher. His presence gives the legal drama the authority and weight required, while his interactions with the other characters provide some of the film’s more engaging moments.
Tabu has little to do, and the same applies to Rajat Kapoor, but both remain significant to the overall world of the film. Their characters may not have the same meat as the principal players, yet their presence adds continuity and emotional weight to the narrative.
Technically, Drishyam 3 – The Conclusion scores well. The background score plays an important role in creating tension and enhancing the impact of key sequences. The cinematography complements the storytelling effectively, keeping the visual world grounded while allowing the suspense to breathe. The film understands that Drishyam works best when the atmosphere feels believable rather than overly stylised.
What ultimately works is the film’s ability to keep the audience guessing. The franchise has always been about the battle between what actually happened and what can be proved, and the third chapter continues to play that game effectively. The writing gives the audience enough information to participate in the mystery, but never enough to comfortably stay ahead of it.
Drishyam The Conclusion is a solid third chapter, packed with strong performances, gripping twists and enough theatrical moments to make this a fitting — and possibly the last — outing. Possibly!!!
