Tere Ishq Mein – OUTSTANDING!!!

“Anand L. Rai is back — and how! A soulful, stirring ride of love and longing.”
A true spiritual sequel to RaanjhanaaTere Ishq Mein marks a powerful return for Anand L. Rai, reminding us why his storytelling voice remains one of the most unique in Hindi cinema. While the trailer and teaser felt like they lacked the old spark, the film itself lands — and how. It makes you feel deeply for both Shankar and Mukti, each righteous in their own world.

Rai once again connects his narrative in the ancient city of Banaras, a place he understands intimately. His characters, their names, and their journeys feel beautifully woven together, echoing the spiritual and emotional connections reminiscent of Raanjhanaa. He reminds us that generations may evolve in every way — but love, People will take technology leaps and achieve everything but love. Tere Ishq Mein is a reminder of soulful love gasping to breathe, and Rai is undeniably back to his finest form. He blends small, delicate emotions with sweeping, aching romance, giving us a film that lingers long after it ends.

The narrative carries Rai’s unmistakable mix of tenderness, humour, and raw emotional intensity, making it a rich experience from start to finish.

At the heart of the film is Dhanush, returning as Shankar, delivering yet another masterclass. He doesn’t just play Shankar — he becomes him. With layers of vulnerability, restraint, and quiet fire, Dhanush communicates heartbreak, hope, and humour without ever tipping into melodrama. His arc forms the emotional backbone of the film.

Kriti Sanon as Mukti delivers one of the strongest performances of her career. She brings grace, depth, and strength to her role, matching Dhanush effortlessly. Their chemistry feels organic, lived-in. Kriti shines equally in emotionally heavy moments and charming lighter ones — a reflection of her growing confidence and command as a performer. She is here, and she absolutely makes you notice.

The music is truly the soul of the film — not just an addition, but an emotional companion that blends seamlessly into the narrative. Every track elevates the story’s emotional currents, carrying both its pain and sweetness with haunting refrains and tender romantic melodies. The title track stands out as the film’s beating heart, lingering beautifully in the background, while Jigar Thanda in both its versions is simply amazing. And then there’s Aawaara Angaara — a song that has my heart, destined to be on loop for a long time, the kind that resonates so deeply it brings tears down your cheeks.

Both fathers, Prakash Raj and Tota Roy Chowdhury, are perfectly cast, sinking deep into their roles. Prakash Raj, especially, is a pillar in Shankar’s life — intense, warm, and profoundly affecting. Priyanshu Painyuli as Ved, Shankar’s friend, is excellent, while Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub’s special appearance provides an essential narrative bridge — and he, as always, delivers. Vineet Singh, in a smaller role, still manages to command attention with his presence.

The dialogues deserve special applause — sharp, heartfelt, and soaked in emotion. The climax features a standout moment where Mukti speaks of how women grow up dreaming of marrying their Prince Charming, often failing to see the love shaped by labour and sacrifice. It’s a brilliant, piercing line delivered with emotional precision. The writing ensures even the simplest lines leave a mark, capturing the complexities of love, loss, and longing.

The story is crafted with care — thoughtful, textured, and emotionally resonant. Rai’s direction, supported by strong writing, keeps the film tethered to its emotional core. Even when pacing stretches slightly, the sincerity of the narrative and the strength of the performances keep you invested.

Tere Ishq Mein is a heartfelt, beautifully told romantic drama anchored by standout performances, soulful music, and honest writing. Anand L. Rai reminds us why he’s one of the most dependable voices in emotional storytelling — delivering a film that touches the heart without losing its authenticity.

A moving, memorable experience — never outrageous, never out of the hand — just Outstanding.
