Metro…In Dino – Brings Bollywood back to Breathing!!!
A Kaleidoscope of Emotions and Stories That Stay With You. Metro…In Dino is a beautifully orchestrated ensemble of emotions, brought alive by a stellar cast and masterful storytelling. Anurag Basu returns with his signature flair, crafting a multi-narrative drama where each thread of the story adds richness to the larger tapestry of urban life, love, and everything in between.
This isn’t just another urban drama; Metro…In Dino feels like Bollywood’s own Inside Out, where every emotion has a face, a story, and a song. The film never drags or dips — there’s always a surge of feeling, a high note of melody, or a slice of relatability that keeps you immersed. The music, too, seamlessly blends with the narrative, making the viewing experience both moving and memorable.
Aditya Roy Kapur and Pankaj Tripathi shine with their impeccable timing and humour. Their anecdotes, quirks, and one-liners are not just entertaining but deeply rooted in character, making you laugh out loud while nudging your heart in unexpected ways. It’s the writing here that truly works like magic — crisp, layered, and emotionally intelligent — and the actors elevate it with subtle brilliance.
One of the film’s most heartwarming part is the chemistry between Neena Gupta and her on-screen daughters. A scene where they discuss a potential son-in-law over a WhatsApp video call strikes an instant chord — it’s real, timely, and hilariously touching. Neena Gupta, as always, is a marvel — be it her camaraderie with Anupam Kher or her relationship with Saswata Chatterjee, she glides through scenes with unmatched ease and gravitas.
Konkona Sen Sharma is flawless, bringing her usual depth and command. Her dynamic with Pankaj Tripathi is not just funny, but layered with emotional weight, especially as it delves into themes like infidelity and heartbreak. Rohan Gurbaxani, despite limited screen time, makes an impression. His character, Aryan, is sketched with such clarity that you instantly grasp his backstory — a testament again to the strength of the writing. Even the briefest roles in this ensemble are well-etched and never feel like filler.
Sara Ali Khan is a breath of fresh air. As Chumki (if memory serves), she brings alive the archetype of the “smart-dumb” persona with flair and fun. Her portrayal of a character who’s confused yet self-assured in her own way is one of her best performances to date. With the right directors, she consistently elevates her game. Her chemistry with Aditya Roy Kapur crackles on screen — their scenes are breezy, energetic, and emotionally engaging. Aditya Roy Kapur plays Parth, one of his most finely tuned performances. His dialogue delivery, timing, and emotional depth all come together to create a character you root for. You can instantly fall in love with Parth.
Ali Fazal and Fatima Sana Shaikh’s story touches on the gap between youthful ambition and adult reality — a poignant, sometimes painful journey through life’s “what ifs.” Their on-screen chemistry is complex, as it should be, and beautifully portrayed. And the friendship between Fatima and Aditya’s characters — warm, comforting, and deeply relatable — offers yet another emotional shade to the film.
Anurag Basu introduces a unifying theme across all stories — confusion. Whether it’s about sexuality, career, love, or relationships, each character is in search of clarity, purpose, or peace. Yet, while his characters may be confused, the filmmaker certainly is not. Basu knows exactly what he wants to convey, and he does it with finesse, empathy, and a distinctly human touch.
A standout motif in the film is the live band performing as a narrative anchor — a nostalgic and thematic nod to Life…In A Metro. It adds an atmospheric layer that pulls you deeper into the mood and spirit of the film. The synergy between the performances, their stories and the film’s writing is what makes Metro…In Dino rewatchable. It’s a film you’d want to return to, not just for the stories but for the emotional resonance.
As we await the slate of upcoming romantic releases — Saiyaara, Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyan, Param Sundari, Dhadak 2, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, and more — we can only hope they carry forward the baton that Basu has so elegantly passed. After a lull and a fair share of flak, perhaps this is the film that reignites Bollywood’s spark.
Anurag Basu remains one of Bollywood’s most heartfelt storytellers. With Metro…In Dino, he brings Bollywood back to breathing — infusing it with warmth, soul, and stories that truly feel alive.
For now enjoy, Metro…in Dino in a theatre near you. Not to be missed.
