Jewel Thief: A Snoozer. Tin ⭐️⭐️
The Director Duo Kookie Gulati and Robby Grewal fail to rob our attention to this Heist that is nothing but plain dull. Saif Ali Khan returns to the heist genre with Jewel Thief, Netflix’s latest attempt at crafting a slick, high-stakes thriller. On paper, it sounds promising—a charismatic lead, a glittering premise of grand theft, and a platform known for edgy content. But unfortunately, Jewel Thief feels more like a stolen opportunity than a cinematic steal.
Let’s start with what works: the production quality is undeniably sleek. From the exotic locations to the glossy cinematography, Jewel Thief looks every bit the high-budget caper it claims to be. The action sequences are plugged but never bring a wow.
Saiph Ali Khan himself is not phoning it in—he brings charm and world-weariness to his role as the enigmatic thief who’s always one step ahead of the game. He versus Jaideep is too good to be true. Jaideep who always impresses is the reason to stay put through the film. But the underwhelming writing doesn’t let him shine. Even other characters aren’t given enough depth to truly shine. Nikita Dutt is ok and so is kunal Kapoor. The biggest problem with Jewel Thief is that it’s just plain dull.
Despite the adrenaline-friendly genre it occupies, the film never really picks up pace. The plot is bloated with exposition and unnecessarily convoluted twists that feel less like clever surprises and more like attempts to stay awake. Dialogue drags. Scenes meant to build tension fizzle out before they reach their crescendo. The film promises an edge-of-your-seat thrill ride but delivers a slow-burn slog that might just have you reaching for the remote—or a pillow.
There are moments where the story hints at deeper emotional stakes or character backstories. Nevertheless, it’s always good to see Kulbhushan Kharbanda. but these are dropped too quickly or brushed aside for yet another unnecessarily elaborate setup. And by the third act, when the final heist should really bring the excitement, the film instead sinks further into tired clichés and lazy reveals.
In the end, Jewel Thief is a good-looking film with decent performances, but it lacks the spark, wit, and pacing that makes a great heist flick memorable. Despite its shiny exterior, this one’s a snoozer. The heist film might just make you snore.
PK Verdict: Tin ⭐️⭐️
