SkyForce – SnoozeForce!!!
Akshay Kumar seems to have mastered the art of turning potentially heroic stories into lacklustre affairs. SkyForce is no exception. What could have been an inspiring tale is instead reduced to a tepid mess, drained of gravitas or impact. It’s a story with potential, but its execution is so dull, it feels like a cinematic sedative – even a morning show left me fighting off sleep.
The film’s attempt to launch newcomer Veer Pahariya as Squadron Leader Ajjamada Boppayya Devayya is another misstep. While the real-life hero’s bravery is undeniably awe-inspiring, his reel-life counterpart simply doesn’t do him justice. Pahariya’s casting feels like an odd choice – a “let’s see if this works” experiment that robs the story of emotional weight. The real hero’s legacy deserved a seasoned or at least recognizable actor who could carry the gravity of the role. Instead, we’re left with a performance that feels out of place and underwhelming.
Nimrat Kaur’s presence in the film is reduced to little more than flaunting a series of evolving hairstyles, while Sara Ali Khan offers yet another rinse-and-repeat performance, indistinguishable from her previous roles. The film’s writing is so shallow it fails to add even a hint of complexity or substance to their flat, lifeless characters. In stark contrast, Sharad Kelkar stands out as the only saving grace. With well-written dialogue, a commanding screen presence, and a nuanced performance, he elevates every moment he’s in, proving once again that even in smaller roles, he shines brighter than the rest.
And then there’s the action. SkyForce is full of tired commands like “Run Run Run!” and “Move Move Move!” – phrases as uninspired as the VFX. The aerial combat scenes, which should have been the film’s crown jewels, instead look cartoonish and lifeless, making the entire production feel lazy and half-baked.
In the end, SkyForce doesn’t just fail to soar; it barely gets off the ground. A real-life story of courage and sacrifice deserved far better than this misfire of a film.
SkyForce – Just another Akshay Kumar Film forces you to snooze.
