Deva – “Intense, Gripping, Unpredictable”

Roshan Andrews masterfully keeps us on edge as we navigate the mystery of finding a mole in Shahid Kapoor’s Deva. Just when you think you have it figured out, the film succeeds to surprise you . That’s the mark of a great suspense thriller, and Deva executes it brilliantly.

Shahid Kapoor delivers a powerhouse performance in Deva, a stylish and intense action thriller that keeps you hooked for majority of its run time. The film sets a gripping tone, blending high-octane action with a mysterious and layered narrative.

Kapoor, in the titular role, showcases a perfect mix of charm, aggression, and vulnerability. His transformation as Deva is remarkable, giving us a compelling performance. The film’s cinematography is sleek, capturing both the raw intensity of action sequences and the emotional depth of its protagonist. The direction is sharp, but given the film’s length and the suspense-driven narrative, there are moments where the pacing falters. Some sequences feel stretched, occasionally making you question the necessity of the prolonged build-up. Nevertheless, they manage to craft a thriller that unfolds in the most unexpected way.

The background score helps enhancing the film’s immersive experience. The action choreography is well-done, striking a balance between realism and stylish execution without going overboard. The supporting cast delivers solid performances, with Pavail Gulati, Pravessh Rana, and Kubbra Sait making a strong impact. Pooja Hegde, despite her limited screen time, complements Shahid Kapoor well. However, the spotlight remains on Shahid, who is clearly the film’s standout. While he doesn’t quite surpass his iconic performances in Kabir Singh and Haider, he still delivers an impressive portrayal as Deva. Ultimately, Deva owes much of its impact to his performance.

What makes Deva stand out is its ability to keep the audience engaged without relying solely on action—there’s a sense of intrigue throughout, making you eager to uncover the layers of the story. A more concise length would have allowed Deva to shine even more. If you’re a fan of gripping thrillers Deva is a good-watch. Watch it before the suspense reaches your ears.
